Full Text Search Express - Desktop Text Cataloging and Full Text Search

Full Text Search Express is a Text Indexing and Full Text Search tool with exceptionally quick searches and an easy to use search interface.  Text Search on your desktop supports the following kind of uses

  • Ad hoc searches of loosely organized document collections

  • Research queries (proximity, fuzzy, range and multiple field queries) against collections of subject matter materials

  • Student searches of subject matter for reports and reference citations

  • Searches against document contents of entire disks to find that document you know you had but cannot locate

  • General subject matter browsing by locating documents which address your current topic of interest

 

Text Indexes are produced using the Lucene.Net text indexing open source software.　 More information about Lucene.Net can be found here Lucene.Net.    Using Lucene.Net gives you the advantage of having the Lucene platform without the burden of running java servlets and associated complex installations.

Input documents can be simple text documents, but Full Text Search Express also supports documents in commonly used MS Office, HTML, XML, and PDF formats.  Document conversions to text are performed using the open source Tika software.   More information about Tika can be found here Tika.  Even though Tika is a java language open source product it runs under Full Text Search Express  without the need to install a java environment.

Installers for samples of Full Text Search Express indexing the Bible (separate pages for each chapter of each book of the bible) and the works of Shakespeare (separate documents for each Shakespeare work) are also available for exploration at the following links.  Note that you cannot use both samples simultaneously and that Full Text Search Express requires .Net Framework 3.5 which you can download from here.
